#3 Herons soar past Golden Flyers 16-2

Ten different players scored a goal as the third-ranked William Smith lacrosse team cruised to a 16-2 victory over Nazareth in the Poole Family Sports Dome this evening. With their win this afternoon, the Herons are 9-0 in the Poole Family Dome since 2020.

Senior attacker Allie McGinty recorded a game-high six points on two goals and four assists. Senior Maddie Montgomery (3g, 1a) and sophomore Natalie Daniels (4g) also had four points in the game. Daniels also had five draw controls while McGinty had a team-high three groundballs. Sophomore Taryn Luzi led William Smith with two caused turnovers. Junior Maura Smeader played all 60 minutes in goal and made eight saves.

Two different players scored for Nazareth (0-1). Tori Henchen, who played the second half in goal had three ground balls. Makenna Misiurewicz had four draw controls. Henchen made seven saves in the second half and Allie Klestinec stopped nine shots in the first half.


  • William Smith finished the game with a 42-13 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Herons were a perfect 11-for-11 on its clear attempts and the Golden Flyers were 11-for-17.
  • William Smith also finished the game with an 18-10 advantage in ground balls and a 17-5 edge in the draw circle.


  • Montgomery has scored at least a goal in 38 straight games and has nine straight multi-goal games.
  • McGinty extended her points streak to 44 straight games with the six-point effort this afternoon.


  • William Smith jumped out of the gates quickly, taking a 3-0 lead five minutes into the game. Montgomery opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game. One minute later sophomore Hannah Evans connected on a feed from McGinty. Montgomery notched her second of the game with 9:40 left in the opening quarter.
  • The Herons put the game out of reach by scoring two goals in 19 seconds. Daniels fired home a pass from McGinty for her first of the game and then McGinty curled around the back of the net and slipped home a shot.
  • Seniors Emily Griffin and Molly Davis notched free position goals in the closing minutes of the quarter to give  William Smith a 7-0 advantage after 15 minutes.
  • The Herons made it a 10-goal game a little over three minutes into the second quarter. McGinty opened the frame with her second goal of the game. Thirty-two seconds later first-year Kayla Quirk notched her first collegiate goal.  Daniels’ second goal of the game came off of a feed from McGinty.
  • Junior Kate Colvin scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the frame off a feed from McGinty. Luzi rounded out the first half scoring after she caused a turnover in the offensive end of the field.
  • Daniels completed her hat trick four minutes into the second half. The goal was assisted by Montgomery.
  • Nazareth broke up the shutout bid and ended the 13-goal run with 7:53 remaining in the third quarter. Sophia Scialdone beat Smeader with a bouncing shot.
  • Daniels and first-year Meredith Montgomery scored two minutes apart to give William Smith a 15-1 lead. Daniels’ fourth goal of the game was assisted by Quirk.  Montgomery’s first collegiate goal was unassisted.
  • Makenna Misiurewicz tacked on a goal with 3:40 left in the third quarter for the Golden Flyers.
  • Maddie Montgomery scored the lone goal in the fourth quarter. She completed her hat trick with 10 minutes remaining in the game.


William will be back in action next Saturday, March 2, when it welcomes No. 6 York (Pa.) to Geneva. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
