Mental health first aid program starting at Thompson Health

UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Wellness Department is introducing Mental Health First Aid classes for community members across the region.

Aimed at teaching individuals how to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use issues among adults, the classes are a step towards empowering the community in addressing mental wellbeing proactively.

Scheduled for February 28 and 29 at Wood Library in Canandaigua, the training requires attendance on both days from 1 to 5 p.m. The initiative, developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, has already seen keen interest from Thompson’s staff, underlining the community’s growing awareness and concern for mental health issues.

With a registration fee of $32 and limited slots available, Wellness Coordinator Kristen Seyfried emphasizes the broad applicability of the skills taught in these sessions, beneficial in both professional and personal spheres. For registration, interested individuals can contact 585-396-6111, signaling a proactive step towards enhancing mental health literacy in the community.
