Police: SF man falsely reported benefits card theft to get additional funds

The Seneca Falls Police Department reports the arrest of a 55-year-old following a social services investigation.

Charles Covert, 55, is accused of reporting that his benefits card was used at an ATM in Seneca Falls without his permission by his nephew.

Following an investigation, it was determined that Charles used the card at an ATM and was given the funds he reported were stolen. Police say he reported this to receive money from Seneca County DSS for payment of rent.

He was charged with falsely reporting an incident and released on an appearance ticket for local court at a later date.
