Michael S. Eldridge, 26, from Hornell, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, for his involvement in a fatal crash. The incident, which occurred on August 6, 2023, in Avoca, resulted in the death of 51-year-old Michael A. Hinrich from Nunda. State Police reported that Hinrich, driving a Chevrolet Camaro, was hit by Eldridge’s Buick as he turned onto state Route 415.
The collision tragically led to Hinrich’s death at the scene, as confirmed by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office. Eldridge and two others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the crash. In addition to manslaughter charges, Eldridge faces counts of reckless endangerment and assault. He is currently held in Steuben County jail on an $8,000 bail.
Hinrich, remembered through an obituary, was a devoted father of three and a passionate musician who sang in various bands. His loss has deeply impacted his community and family.
