Newark woman released after high-speed chase through Wayne County

Deputies say no injuries were reported after a high-speed chase through several towns in Wayne County.

Lisa A. Sweeting, a 33-year-old woman from Newark, was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following a high-speed pursuit. The incident began when Sweeting failed to comply with a traffic stop initiated by deputies in the town of Palmyra.

She led authorities on a chase through several towns, including Palmyra, Marion, Walworth, and Ontario, before the pursuit was halted on Paddy Lane in Ontario. Sweeting’s vehicle was stopped using spike strips on State Route 350 in Walworth, and she briefly attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.

Sweeting faces multiple charges including obstruction, resisting arrest, and several traffic-related offenses. She was also found to not have an active license. Following processing at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Sweeting was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Ontario Court, where she will answer to the charges.
