A school bus accident occurred in the Village of Montour Falls, leading to precautionary medical checks but no injuries. The incident, involving a single Berni bus, took place on Steuben Street on Wednesday at 7:47 a.m., as reported by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.
The bus, driven by 63-year-old Russell A. Decker of Painted Post was descending a hill on Steuben Street when it reportedly veered off the lane. This deviation led the bus into a ditch on the west side of the road, where it collided with a rock face, damaging its front passenger side. The bus was carrying three children, all aged 3, and a bus monitor at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, all passengers, including the children and monitor, were safely evacuated and transported to the Schuyler emergency room for precautionary measures. No injuries were reported. The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Montour Falls Fire Department and Schuyler County Emergency Medical Services, responded to the scene. The bus was later towed by B&W Towing. The driver, Russell Decker, faces charges for failing to maintain lane under vehicle and traffic law.
