Penn Yan Superintendent Howard Dennis will retire after 30 years of service to district

After 30 years of service to the Penn Yan Central School District, Superintendent Howard Dennis has announced his retirement, effective January 2025. Dennis, who began his career in Penn Yan in 1994 as an eighth-grade social studies teacher, has spent the last nine years as the superintendent. Reflecting on his tenure, Dennis expressed his deep connection to the district, citing the community support and school culture as aspects he will miss the most.

Throughout his three decades at Penn Yan, Dennis has held various roles, including staff development and Assistant Superintendent for Staff Instruction, before taking the helm as Superintendent in 2015. His dedication has focused on preparing students for diverse post-graduate paths, emphasizing the importance of a strong curriculum in a rural district setting.

The Penn Yan Board of Education, led by President David Willson, expressed gratitude for Dennis’s commitment and impact on students’ lives. The Board will commence the Superintendent Search Process to find a successor by January 2025, aiming to continue the legacy of enriching student education that Dennis has established.
