Bill to relocate CNY Welcome Center to Auburn gains steam

A new bill introduced by State Sen. Rachel May aims to relocate the Central New York Welcome Center from Destiny USA in Syracuse to the Equal Rights Heritage Center in Auburn. This legislation seeks to redirect the designation back to Auburn, involving a contract between the state Department of Economic Development and the city of Auburn, which operates the Equal Rights Heritage Center.

The move is significant as Auburn has been covering the operating costs for the Equal Rights Heritage Center since its opening in 2018, without state aid for its operation. There were plans earlier to put the CNY Welcome Center in Auburn, but that never materialized.

This center, since opening, has attracted significant visitor numbers, demonstrating its potential as a regional welcome center.
