Beaver, Statesmen set shutout records against Babson

The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team set a pair of shutout records as it knocked off Babson College 5-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. Sophomore goalie Damon Beaver stopped all 25 shots he faced as he earned his Hobart record 12th career shutout. It was also the Statesmen’s 10th shutout of the season, a new single-season record.

Hobart (15-2-1, 9-1-1) was led by sophomore Tristan Fasig who scored twice. First-years Conor Lally and Bauer Morrissey had two assists each.

Nate Muller played all 60 minutes in goal for the Beavers (9-7-2, 6-3-1). He made 34 saves.


  • Hobart has won 29 straight games at The Cooler. It’s the longest active streak in the second longest in NCAA Division III History.
  • Hobart is unbeaten in their last 12 games. It is tied for the third longest streak in program history.
  • The Statesmen did not allow a goal on Babson’s six power-play attempts. Hobart has gone 18 straight games without allowing a power-play goal and has killed off all 52 of its opponent’s power-play opportunities so far this season.


  • Hobart finished the game with a 39-25 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 2-for-6 on the power play.


  • After a scoreless first period, the Statesmen erupted for four goals in the second period.
  • Junior Luke Aquaro opened the scoring 54 seconds into the frame. He ripped a wrist shot into the upper right corner of the cage for his 10th goal of the season. Seniors Austin Mourar and Jared Patterson were awarded assists on the power-play goal.
  • Hobart broke the game open with three goals in 96 seconds late in the stanza. Sophomore Kahlil Fontana started the run with his seventh goal of the season. He slipped a shot from the low slot through Muller’s legs. Lally and Morrissey had assists on the goal.
  • Just under a minute later, Sophomores Ignat Belov and Tanner Hartman played give-and-go through the neutral zone before Belov potted his 10th goal of the season.
  • Thirty-seven seconds later, Fasig pocketed his fifth goal of the season. He snapped home a shot from the slot for his fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Tanner Daniels and senior Kevin Lassmanwere awarded assists on the goal.
  • Fasig rounded out the scoring at the 18:13 mark of the third period. He fired home a shot from the point for his sixth goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by Lally and Morrissey.


Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 20, when it welcomes Southern Maine to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
