In a fortunate turn of events, no one was injured when a plane skidded off the runway at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred just before 4 p.m., involved AA Flight 5811 coming from Philadelphia. The plane, carrying 50 passengers and three crew members, safely landed but veered off into the grass during a turn. Emergency personnel quickly surrounded the aircraft to ensure everyone’s safety.
Passengers were promptly evacuated and transported to the airport terminal by buses.
The mishap has led to some disruption at the airport, with several flights being delayed or canceled due to one runway being closed for cleanup. Travelers with plans through the airport are advised to check with their airlines for updates on flight schedules.
