Sabres blanked in home loss to Canucks

The Buffalo Sabres (18-21-4) were blanked by the Vancouver Canucks (29-11-3), 1-0, on Saturday evening at KeyBank Center.

Sam Lafferty scored the lone goal two minutes and five seconds into the second period on a wrist shot.

The Sabres outshot the Canucks 25-23 but couldn’t get anything past Vancouver’s goaltender Thatcher Demko. Tage Thomspon led the team with four shots, while Zach Benson, Alex Tuch, and Casey Mittelstadt had three.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 23 saves.

Buffalo went 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
