An antisemitic symbol was found at Upstate Medical University, leading to an immediate investigation. The symbol, a swastika, was discovered drawn on Anatomy Lab material. The incident was confirmed in a letter from Dr. Julie R. White, the Vice President for Educational Services and Dean of Student Affairs. University President Dewan has directed the Office of Institutional Equity and University Police to conduct a thorough investigation.
The university has yet to identify the person responsible for this act. In her letter to students, Dr. White emphasized that such behavior is reprehensible and unacceptable. She assured that once identified, the individual(s) involved will face disciplinary actions and, if appropriate, criminal charges.
The University is appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact the Office of Institutional Equity at (315)-464-9590 or University Police at 315-464-4000. This act of antisemitism contradicts the values of the university, which prides itself on a foundation of healing and improving lives.
