Enslow: Landfill issue is for Town of SF, not Seneca County board

At the recent Seneca County Board of Supervisors meeting, local residents strongly voiced their opposition to the proposed expansion of the Seneca Meadows landfill.

Despite the issue not being on the meeting’s agenda, eight speakers urged the board to oppose the landfill’s expansion.

Board Chair Mike Enslow reiterated that the matter is a decision for the town of Seneca Falls, not the county board, as they currently have no proposal seeking their support for the landfill.

The Varick Town Board previously voted to support SMI’s application for a permit to expand the landfill, which would increase its capacity and extend its operational life.

Residents expressed concerns about the landfill’s environmental impact and its effect on the community’s quality of life. Speakers highlighted issues ranging from unpleasant odors to the landfill’s visibility and its potential effects on health and the environment.
