One in custody after stabbing in Canandaigua

The Canandaigua Police Department reports the arrest of a Phelps man after a stabbing in the city earlier this week.

It happened Thursday, Janaury 11, according to police, who say they were dispatched to Saltonstall Street for an assault where one person was stabbed with a knife.

The victim was rushed to Thompson Hospital, then transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police say Robert Taylor III, 37, of Canandaigua has been charged with first-degree assault. He’s accused of confronting the victim, which led to a physical altercation.

He then stabbed the victim with a knife in the abdomen and fled the area.

Taylor was eventually taken into custody in the town of Phelps at a residence there.

No additional information was immediately available about the victim. Taylor is being held at the Ontario County Jail.
