The Newark Police Department announced the arrest of Chad McDonald on several charges including second-degree kidnapping, third-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny, and strangulation.
The arrest followed an investigation into a domestic incident on January 7 on Woodside Drive in Newark.
According to the police report, McDonald allegedly entered the victim’s apartment, assaulted her, and forcibly took her phone. He then reportedly forced her into her car and drove away, during which he strangled and threatened her.
The victim eventually managed to escape when McDonald stopped the car.
McDonald was apprehended on January 9 by deputies in Cayuga County and handed over to Newark Police.
He was processed for the current charges and an outstanding assault warrant from a previous domestic incident.
McDonald is now awaiting arraignment at Wayne County CAP.
The victim’s stolen car was entered into the National Crime Information Center and recovered.
