Residents of Wellsville now have a new shopping destination with the opening of a Dollar Tree store at 110 Bolivar Road on state Route 417. The store, which opened its doors on Friday morning, is set to offer a variety of merchandise at affordable prices.
Previously a Walgreens, the building at this location has been transformed to house the new Dollar Tree store. On Thursday, anticipation built as employees prepared for the opening, stocking shelves and setting up a sign announcing the Friday morning launch.
Dollar Tree, Inc., which also owns the Family Dollar chain, including a store in the nearby Wellsville Shopping Center, is expanding its presence in the area. This move aligns with the company’s strategic plans, as stated by CEO Richard Dreiling. He noted during a third-quarter earnings call that Family Dollar stores not meeting expectations might be reviewed or closed.
This year, Dollar Tree reported substantial growth, opening nearly 200 new stores. The company saw an increase in net sales, with a 5.4% rise at Dollar Tree stores and a 2% increase at Family Dollar locations. Jeff Davis, the chief financial officer, highlighted the company’s success, crediting its growth initiatives for a 5% increase in gross profit compared to the previous year.
The Wellsville Dollar Tree is part of a larger regional network, joining other locations in Hornell, Dansville, Olean, Bath, Corning, and Bradford, PA. Store hours vary, with the Hornell location open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
In addition to Dollar Tree, Wellsville also hosts two Dollar General stores, providing residents with multiple options for affordable shopping.
