Odgensburg man pleads guilty to drug possession, impaired driving in Cayuga County

Gregory C. Church, a 55-year-old resident of Ogdensburg, has pleaded guilty to serious drug charges and impaired driving, with a sentencing date set for April 25. Church admitted to one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, classified as a class B felony, and to driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor. This plea is expected to resolve an additional charge of third-degree criminal possession.

The case began in October when New York State Police responded to a crash in Brutus involving Church. He was found unconscious in his vehicle, leading emergency medical services to administer Narcan, a medication used to counteract the effects of opioid overdose. Church regained consciousness and was then transported to Auburn Community Hospital for further care.

During the investigation of the crash, police discovered approximately 56.3 grams of cocaine in Church’s vehicle. After his release from the hospital, Church was arrested for the possession and driving offenses.

This guilty plea marks a significant development in a case that combines drug possession with impaired driving, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offenses and ensure road safety. Church’s upcoming sentencing in April will conclude this phase of the legal proceedings.
