The North American Manure Expo, an annual event, is set to be hosted in Cayuga County for the first time, bringing its focus on manure innovations to the Northeast. Scheduled for July 17 and 18, 2024, at Patterson Farms in the town of Springport, the expo is organized in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County.
This event will feature a range of vendors and demonstrations, highlighting the latest in manure management technology, equipment, and expertise from around the globe. Key topics to be covered include the use of nutrients on farms to enhance soil health, strategies for reducing nutrient runoff, and methods to decrease the reliance on commercial fertilizers.
The expo is cohosted by Cornell University’s College of Agriculture & Life Sciences PRO-DAIRY program and the University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crops and Soils program. Kirsten Workman of PRO-DAIRY emphasized the importance of water quality in manure management in New York and Vermont, noting the region’s challenging climate, soils, and regulations as drivers of innovation. The Northeast’s willingness to embrace new approaches will be a central theme at the expo.
