Google trends reveal top searches in 2023 across CNY communities

Google Trends has unveiled the top searches of 2023 in Central New York, providing an intriguing snapshot of regional interests.

In Syracuse, the most popular “near me” search was “air quality near me,” likely driven by the prolonged impact of Canadian wildfire smoke during the summer. This environmental concern was unique to the area. Syracuse also showed a distinct interest in entertainment, with the HBO series “The Last of Us” and Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” being the top trending TV show and tour search, respectively. The city had the unique distinction of being the only U.S. area where “Syracuse vs Western Michigan” was a top trending search.

In neighboring cities, the trends varied. Watertown’s residents were particularly interested in “apple orchards near me,” making it the city’s top “near me” search. The community shared Syracuse’s enthusiasm for “The Last of Us” and showed significant interest in the band Train’s “Definitely Not A Tour.”

In Utica, the most notable search was “LPN jobs near me,” suggesting a high interest in nursing and medical careers. Utica also uniquely favored Drake’s “It’s All a Blur Tour.” Binghamton’s searches were diverse, from “driving schools near me,” indicating many new drivers, to an interest in British Royal drama, with “Harry and Meghan” ranking 5th in the U.S. top trending searches. The city also showed an avid interest in sports, particularly the fight between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul. These varied search trends reflect the diverse interests and concerns of residents across Central New York.
