  • Staff Report

Julio Rios, a Maryland resident, accidentally shot himself in the lower extremity and is now facing criminal charges for illegal firearm possession.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 23, in the parking lot of the Townplace Suites in the Town of Clay, where Rios was staying. He subsequently arrived at Upstate Hospital via personal vehicle for treatment of his injuries.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, upon investigating the scene, found two pistols in Rios’ vehicle. Since Rios does not hold a New York State Pistol License, he has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

He is currently awaiting arraignment. Despite the circumstances, Rios is listed in good condition following the incident.
