Gould concludes two-year run as legislature chair in Cayuga County

David Gould, a former Cayuga County sheriff, capped off his extensive career in public service with a notable two-year stint as the chair of the Cayuga County Legislature.

Gould, who retired as sheriff at the end of 2018, continued his public service by running unopposed for the county Legislature in 2021, representing the District 5 area covering the towns of Aurelius and Fleming.

During his tenure as chair, which began shortly after his election, Gould led several significant initiatives including the County’s first redistricting plan in three decades.

Gould prioritized the modernization of the Cayuga County Office Building, establishing a committee to plan upgrades for the outdated facility, with decisions now pending with the new legislature. He also focused on enhancing public and legislative understanding of various county departments’ roles and contributions.

Although stepping down from his legislative role, Gould plans to stay involved in the community, continuing his legacy of public service that spans over four decades.
