Cayuga County Clerk-elect pleads guilty to leaving scene of property damage accident

Brian Scanlan, the newly elected Cayuga County Clerk, has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a property damage accident last month.

The incident, which occurred in the town of Owasco just after his election victory on November 7, involved Scanlan crashing his vehicle into a parked Subaru owned by Dr. Cyndy King of North Carolina.

The Citizen reported that Scanlan admitted guilt via mail and received a sentence on December 1. This sentence includes a $250 fine with a $93 surcharge, a mandatory defensive driving course, 50 hours of community service, and the requirement to cover the uninsured expenses of the vehicle owner.

Dr. King, who was in the area for a funeral, stated that her vehicle was totaled in the accident.
