A tragic three-vehicle collision in Newfield resulted in the death of a 17-year-old and serious injuries to another teen on December 12.
New York State Police at Ithaca reported the accident occurred around 12:50 p.m. on West Danby Road near Piper Road. The crash involved a Toyota Yaris, a Jeep Patriot, and a Cadillac CT6.
According to the investigation, the Toyota Yaris, driven by 18-year-old Dale T. Beeman of Spencer, rear-ended the Jeep Patriot, which had stopped for a turning vehicle. The impact caused the Yaris to veer into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by the Cadillac CT6.
The passenger in the Toyota Yaris, 17-year-old Peyton C. Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead at the scene. Beeman was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital with serious injuries.
The drivers of the other two vehicles, 40-year-old Aristopher D. Bo of Waverly operating the Jeep Patriot, and 29-year-old Stephen M. Lucente of Spencer, driving the Cadillac CT6, were evaluated by EMS at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
