Cornell University has announced the seasonal closure of two popular outdoor trails for the winter months.
Starting Tuesday, December 5, the Cascadilla Gorge Trail, which runs between Linn Street downtown and College Avenue in Collegetown, along with a section of the Beebe Lake trail on the university’s north campus, will be closed to the public.
This precautionary measure is taken annually to ensure safety during the colder months when the trails are potentially hazardous.
The university specified that the closed section of the lakeside trail near Beebe Lake includes the Tang Staircase adjacent to Forest Home Drive.
The closures are part of Cornell’s ongoing efforts to maintain safe and accessible outdoor spaces for students, staff, and the public. The university regularly assesses the conditions of these trails, which are prone to icy and slippery conditions during the winter, posing risks to pedestrians.
