Sophie Marmor appointed as new Assistant County Attorney in Schuyler County

Schuyler County Attorney Steven Getman has announced the appointment of Montour Falls resident Sophie Marmor as the new Assistant County Attorney.

In her new role, Marmor will represent Schuyler County in various legal capacities, including civil litigation and family court prosecutions. This appointment marks a significant step in Marmor’s legal career, which has been diverse and extensive since she became an attorney in 2013.

Marmor brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously served as an assistant district attorney in both Chemung and Schuyler counties. Her background also includes time in the Chemung County Public Advocate’s office and a stint as a Judicial Intern in the New York State Supreme Court. County Attorney Getman expressed his confidence in Marmor’s abilities, citing her education and experience as key factors in her selection. He anticipates that she will represent the county government effectively and ethically.

A graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Stern College for Women at Yeshiva University, where she graduated magna cum laude, Marmor has also been actively involved in community service. She has served as a member of the Schuyler County Coalition Against Underage Drinking and Drug Use, taught at the Jewish Community School of the Twin Tiers, and was the Captain of the Yeshiva University NCAA III 2008-2009 Varsity Fencing Team. Alongside Getman and Marmor, the Schuyler County Attorney’s office includes first assistant county attorney Kristin Hazlitt and secretaries Ramona Cunningham and Brandy Bower, demonstrating a robust and skilled legal team serving the county.
