Syracuse drops second straight with loss to Gonzaga in Maui Invitational (full coverage)

For a second straight day, the Syracuse Orange came out on the losing end, falling 76-57 to the No. 11 Gonzaga Bulldogs in the consolation bracket of the Maui Invitational. 

Syracuse went to the locker room at halftime, trailing 39-25. The Orange went on a second-half run to cut the lead to six with around eight minutes remaining in regulation, but Gonzaga followed that with back-to-back three-pointers and pulled away for the double-digit victory.

The Orange shot just 36% from the field and were outrebounded 47-22. The Bulldogs had 25 second-chance points to Syracuse’s eight.

Judah Mintz scored a game-high 22 points on 9-for-14 shooting. JJ Starling poured in 15 points. Chris Bell finished with six points after going 2-for-18 from the field. Benny Williams did not play for unknown reasons.

Syracuse will play its final game in Honolulu on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. against Chaminade.
