Hosted at the Smokin’ Tails Distillery, located at 3 Church Street, this event is a collaboration between Pete Cheney, the distillery’s owner and a renowned master distiller, and John Sherwood, the author of “Charlie…The Merry Christmoose.”

The festival, set to run from 4 to 7 p.m., invites the community to experience a special moonshine tasting and a book signing, making it a perfect start to the holiday season.

The highlight of the festival is the “Mooseknuckle Moonshine” tasting, showcasing a range of flavors like Salted Caramel, Apple Pie, and Chocolate Cherry Bon Bon, crafted by Pete Cheney.

Cheney, a Phelps native, gained fame after winning the title of Master Distiller on the Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners show. His journey in moonshine production began in the hearse garage of his funeral home, eventually leading to the opening of Smokin’ Tails Distillery in Phelps during the pandemic.

Adding to the festivities, attendees will have the chance to meet the character Charlie The Moose, from Sherwood’s book “Charlie…The Merry Christmoose.” The story, an inspiring tale of perseverance and determination, follows Charlie’s dream to fly with Santa Claus and deliver presents to children worldwide.

This event not only celebrates local talent but also embodies the holiday spirit, offering something special for both adults and children. The Moose Fest stands as a testament to the hometown spirit of Phelps, bringing together unique creations and spreading holiday cheer in the community.
