First-year head coach Adrian Autry and the Syracuse Orange opened the 2023-24 season with an 83-72 victory over New Hampshire on Monday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Syracuse jumped out to a 32-9 lead, but New Hampshire fought back and hung around in the second half, outscoring SU 40-39 over the final 20 minutes.
Judah Mintz led the Orange with 20 points. Justin Taylor added 14, while JJ Starling, Quadir Copeland, and Maliq Brown added 10 each. Copeland also grabbed 13 rebounds, recording his first double-double.
The Orange shot 42% (28-for-67) and finished 22-of-27 at the free throw line.
