The Midlakes Theatre Experience is set to bring a murder mystery to life with its production of ‘Clue,’ a stage adaptation of the iconic board game and Paramount’s 1985 film. Under the direction of Layna Gray, the performance is scheduled for early November at the Black Box Theatre, promising suspense and humor in a 90-minute showcase featuring a 15-minute intermission.

Set against the tense backdrop of 1950s McCarthyism, the play begins with a newscaster and a character representing McCarthy setting the scene of national paranoia. The narrative then shifts to a mansion where six guests, each given aliases and a weapon, find themselves entangled in a deadly game after their host is found murdered. Senior Mara Deisering, playing Mrs. Peacock, describes the play as “the biggest murder mystery,” filled with chaos and wit, where no one is above suspicion.

The production sees students taking on classic ‘Clue’ roles like Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, and Mr. Green, as well as other eccentric characters. A vivid cast, including senior Heather Belcher as Miss Scarlet, steps into the varied personas with Ella Weykman, Kaylynn Judson, Ashlyn Knapp, and others rounding out the dramatis personae. The team behind the scenes includes Emily Houston as assistant director, Kyra Guest as student director, and a robust set and stage crew who have built an immersive experience for the audience.

‘Clue’ is scheduled for performances at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, with a matinee at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. Tickets are available for purchase at $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors at various local businesses and the Midlakes High School Main Office.
