#1 Hobart storms past Potsdam 7-0

The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team scored three goals in the first period and never looked back as it defeated Potsdam 7-0 in a non-conference contest at Maxcy Ice Arena this evening. The Statesmen are now 1-1-0 on the season.

Luke Aquaro recorded a game-high three points on two goals and one assist. He was one of seven Hobart skaters to finish with a multi-point game. Chris Duclairalso scored twice in the win. Mavrick Goyer made 14 saves as he earned his third career shutout.

Joh Werber played all 60 minutes in goal for Potsdam (0-1-0). He made 36 saves.


  • Hobart finished the game with a 43-14 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 2-for-3 on the power play. The Bears were 0-for-3 on the man advantage.


  • Duclair opened the scoring at the 9:53 mark of the first period. He one-timed a slap shot from the right faceoff circle past Werber for his second goal of the season. Bauer Morrissey and Conor Lally were awarded assists on the power-play goal.
  • Aquaro made it 2-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the opening frame. He redirected a crossing pass from Tanner Hartman past the Potsdam goalie. Kevin Lassman also recorded an assist on the tally.
  • Mason Mara made it a three-goal game at the 18:19 mark of the first period. He one-timed a centering pass from Brandon Sacchetti for his first collegiate goal. Christian Duvall also notched an assist on the goal.
  • Aquaro scored the lone goal in the second period just over four minutes into the frame. He deked a Potsdam defender and lifted a backhanded shot over Werber’s leg pad. Logan Gotinsky and Ignat Belov were credited with assists on the goal.
  • Gotinsky pocketed his first collegiate goal nine minutes into the third period. He snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle across the goal line. Aquaro and Jared Patterson notched assists on the goal.
  • Just under two minutes later, Duclair fired home another power-play goal for his third tally of the season. Morrissey and Lally had helpers on the goal.
  • Tanner Hartman rounded out the scoring. His first goal of the season was assisted by Belov and Artem Buzoverya.

Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 3, when it begins New England Hockey Conference play against Norwich. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at The Cooler.
