Steuben man faces felony charges for illegal firearms and crystal meth possession

Ian F. Travis, a 24-year-old resident of Steuben County, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 17, following the execution of a search warrant by Troop E’s Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET) at his home in the Town of Hornby.

The search led to the discovery of several illegal firearms and approximately 1.5 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, along with associated drug paraphernalia.

NYS Troopers confiscated an assortment of weapons from Travis’ residence, including two illegal handguns, one of which had a 24-round high-capacity magazine, an assault-style 12 gauge shotgun, a .223 assault-style rifle, two other shotguns, two deer hunting rifles, and several high-capacity magazines with a large cache of ammunition.

Travis has been charged with multiple offenses, including one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony, as well as four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Travis was remanded to the Steuben County Jail. The investigation involved collaborative efforts from the Elmira Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit and the Corning Police Department.
