Following controversial statements made by a history professor at an off-campus pro-Palestine rally, Cornell University has heightened its police presence on campus.

Professor Russell Rickford reportedly described the recent Hamas terrorist attacks as “exhilarating” and “energizing,” a sentiment that sparked significant backlash on social media, with many accusing him of endorsing terrorism.

Cornell University’s president, Martha E. Pollack, swiftly condemned the remarks, stating that such views stand “in direct opposition to all we stand for at Cornell.”

Pollack’s statement highlighted the deep pain felt by all sides in the ongoing conflict, praising students from various backgrounds who held peaceful vigils.

Despite the intensified security measures, questions remain regarding any potential disciplinary actions against Rickford.
