The Seneca County Democratic Committee welcomed its new leader, Rachel Weil of Seneca Falls, during an organizational meeting on Sept. 28.
A history professor at Cornell University, Weil will serve a two-year term as chair. She takes the reins from David Wood of Ovid, who did not run for reelection, after defeating former party chairman Ted Young of Waterloo.
While Weil has previously made two unsuccessful runs for county supervisor, she has been a prominent figure in various political campaigns and voter outreach initiatives.
Additionally, the committee announced other leadership appointments, including Ruth Same as 1st vice chair, David Wood as 2nd vice chair, Charles Brady as secretary, and Jeffrey Hauf as treasurer. Among the county’s 20,465 registered voters, 5,988 are enrolled Democrats.
