Boynton Middle School in Ithaca experienced heightened police presence on Friday morning following a social media post that was mistakenly perceived as a threat, according to 14850 Today.
Acting Chief of Police Ted Schwartz of the Ithaca Police Department stated they had looked into the matter and found no credible threat. While the post had raised alarms, further scrutiny revealed that it was misconstrued and did not carry any malicious intent.
Although the Ithaca City School District refrained from commenting on the issue, officers were seen making rounds through the school on Friday.
Student attendance was also down that day.
