The Buffalo Sabres battled back from an early 2-0 deficit but still came out on the losing end, falling 3-2 to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Saturday night.
Buffalo (0-2-0) got goals from Jordan Greenway and Casey Mittelstadt, while Zach Benson tallied two assists, his first NHL points. Mittelstadt also recorded a helper, as did Rasmus Dahlin.
Devon Levi turned aside 26-of-29 shots in his ninth career NHL game.
The Sabres went 0-for-2 on the man advantage and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Buffalo will begin a four-game homestand Tuesday when they welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to KeyBank Center. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
