Fourth suspect in torture-murder case revealed: One suspect in prison following Geneva conviction

Public court records have revealed Kavon Sanders, 19, as the fourth individual implicated in the 2021 torture and murder of Juan Jose Gotay.

Sanders, 16 at the time of the crime, faced multiple charges, including second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

While the court acquitted Sanders on several counts, he was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and could face up to 25 years imprisonment.


In related proceedings, Thomas Bovaird became the second person to admit guilt in Gotay’s murder.

Bovaird’s guilty plea to second-degree murder on June 8, 2023. Earlier in May 2023, Malik Weems had confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Eddie Marte, another suspect in the case, is presently detained at the Attica Correctional Facility following a guilty plea for various charges tied to an April 2021 incident in Geneva.
