The Watkins Glen Alzheimer’s Association is gearing up to host its Walk to End Alzheimer’s event at the Watkins Glen International race track on Saturday, October 14.

This walk, one of over 600 similar events held across the U.S., aims to bring awareness and resources to those impacted by the disease.

Participants can choose between two routes, a short 1-mile route and a longer 2.5-mile option.

The event’s significance is underscored by startling statistics: over 6 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer’s, and the disease’s death toll has doubled from 2000 to 2019.

Moreover, the economic burden of Alzheimer’s and other dementias is expected to skyrocket, with costs projected to hit nearly $1 trillion by 2050. With over 200 participants already registered, this year’s walk at Watkins Glen seeks to raise $140,000.

Those interested can find additional details and registration options online. The event, located at 2790 County Route 16, will start its registration at 4 pm, with the walk commencing at 5 pm.
