This October, the OWWL Library System, spanning Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston Counties, is embarking on a community service drive dubbed “The Great Give Back.”
Originating on Long Island in 2017, the initiative has grown exponentially over the years, with nearly 300 libraries across New York State participating in 2022. The drive focuses on amassing personal care items such as gloves, toothbrushes, shampoo, menstrual products, and more, all of which are to be new.
The two-week campaign will commence on October 21 and culminate on November 4, 2023. The Red Jacket Community Library, a regular participant, plans to use the contributions to replenish its in-library Community Hygiene Shelf and to support the local Twin Cities Food Cupboard. Similarly, Avon Free Library will be dividing the donated items between the Avon Food Pantry and Stone’s Closet, a vital community resource. Each participating library will determine the best local recipient for the collected goods.
