A local man was arrested on Monday morning after rushing into Casey Park Elementary School with a weapon, causing panic among students and staff.
Police say 36-year-old Jeffery Sanders Jr. was detained around 9:47 a.m., following a quick response by the Auburn Fire Department, who were on-site for a fire prevention demonstration.
Authorities stated that Sanders ran towards a fire truck parked outside the school and subsequently made his way into the building, in the process knocking several kindergarten students, with one sustaining a minor head injury.
Sanders was quickly subdued and disarmed of a pocket knife he had in his possession. While initial investigations suggest Sanders might have been undergoing a mental health crisis, he faces multiple charges, including criminal trespass and endangering the welfare of a child.
