Corning pair arrested after Erwin burglary: Bail set at $1

Two residents of Corning, Manuel Colon Jr., 18, and Malik D. Smith, 21, were apprehended on Sept. 29 in connection with a burglary in the Town of Erwin last month.


The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reported that the duo unlawfully entered an Erwin home on Sept. 16 and made off with property valued over $1,000.

Both Colon and Smith face charges of second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.

Following their initial appearance in the Centralized Arraignment Court, they are currently detained at the Steuben County Jail, with bail set at $1. The Corning Police Department played a supportive role in the investigation, assisting the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office in their arrest efforts.
