Statewide deer and bear hunting seasons underway

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Statewide seasons for deer and bear hunting are set to begin, with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) underscoring the need for hunters to report all deer, bear, and turkey harvests within seven days.

Bowhunting seasons in the Northern Zone initiated on September 27, with the Southern Zone beginning on October 1.

The early bow season is highlighted as an optimal period for hunting, offering favorable weather and extended daylight hours, as remarked by Commissioner Seggos.

He also noted it as a chance to introduce newcomers to deer and bear hunting, emphasizing New York’s diverse hunting habitats.
