The recently formed Fleming Fire District is progressing towards finalizing its budget, following a nearly two-hour meeting of its board of commissioners on Tuesday night.
To ensure public engagement and feedback, a public hearing has been arranged for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Fleming Fire Department No. 2, where the board will deliberate on finalizing the budget post-hearing residents’ opinions and concerns.
This development comes after voters opposed elevating the district’s statutory spending limit to $450,000, forcing the board to adhere to the existing spending cap which mainly covers operational costs, excluding certain expenses like bond payments.
Despite the restrictive cap, there’s an evident eagerness among the fire departments and the commissioners to have the budget approved, emphasizing the critical need for funds.
