Gerrit Cole turned in another spectacular performance on the mound as the New York Yankees (77-76) avoided a three-game sweep with a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays (85-68) on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.

Box Score

Cole, who is working his way towards his first career Cy Young award, allowed just one run on two hits over eight innings while striking out nine, lowering his season ERA to 2.75.

Jake Bauers, who had been slumping at the plate, crushed a three-run home run to give New York an early lead. Estevan Florial and Aaron Judge added run-scoring doubles.

The Yankees will begin a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday in the Bronx. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
