The New York Yankees (76-76) wasted a brilliant pitching performance from Michael King, falling 6-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays (85-67) on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

Box Score

King, who has transitioned to a starter over the last month, tossed seven innings of one-run ball while striking out a career-high 13 batters. His 13 strikeouts were the most by a Yankee pitcher this season.

However, the Yankees offense managed just five hits, and the bullpen gave up five runs. Two of the team’s five hits came in the ninth inning. Austin Wells plated the lone run with his first Major League home run.

The Yankees will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Thursday with Gerrit Cole on the mound. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
