Walter Gable, host of Our Finger Lakes History, honored for decades of dedication to Seneca County

Walter Gable of Seneca Falls, the county’s devoted historian, was formally honored by the Seneca County Board of Supervisors for his unyielding dedication to preserving the rich history of the area.

Celebrating his 20th year in the role on August 25, Gable, a former social studies teacher at Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, was bestowed a proclamation in recognition of his service during the Board’s Sept. 12 meeting.

Apart from his educational contributions as a teacher, Gable’s unwavering commitment to historical preservation for Seneca County shone bright over the past two decades.

“From August 25, 2003 through August 25, 2023, he has served honorably and with distinction,” the proclamation highlighted, crediting Gable with zealously working to “safeguard and preserve every facet of this county’s historical legacy.”

Among his numerous contributions, Gable penned three books elucidating Seneca County’s vast historical tapestry and was instrumental in significantly expanding county historical markers. He also hosts a regular podcast on the FingerLakes1.com network called Our Finger Lakes History.

The Board’s proclamation offered a heartfelt acknowledgment of Gable’s singular contributions, concluding with their “deepest gratitude and appreciation for all he has done.”
