The Newark Police Department announced the promotion of Officer Greg DeBoerdere to the rank of Police Sergeant, effective September 17.
A Newark High School graduate in 1995, Sgt. DeBoerdere began his law enforcement journey with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in 2002, eventually transitioning to the Newark Police Department in December of 2008.
With his extensive background including roles as a crime scene evidence technician and overseeing the Department’s property/evidence rooms, DeBoerdere is expected to bring a wealth of experience to his new leadership position.
Mayor Taylor expressed enthusiasm about the promotion stating “We are thrilled to have someone with Sergeant DeBoerdere’s experience stepping into this leadership role. His seasoned expertise will be vital to the success and growth of our Department as it continues to evolve.”
Similarly, Police Commissioner Stu Blodgett highlighted the significance of promoting from within, noting that the Newark PD offers a robust career path with ample advancement opportunities.
The official swearing-in ceremony for Sgt. DeBoerdere is set for the Newark Village Board meeting on Sept 25 at 6:00 pm.
