A late-night fire erupted in the Fort Hill Conifer Apartments on Saturday, leading to a rapid response from local firefighters.
Arriving crews detected the smoke smell, and upon further inspection, found an active fire within one of the apartments. Reports of a trapped individual were promptly acted upon, resulting in the successful rescue of the resident from the burning unit.
Firefighters managed to contain and put out the blaze, but not without consequence. The sprinkler system’s activation and the efforts to combat the fire led to water damage, forcing five residents to find temporary accommodations.
The City of Canandaigua’s Fire Investigation Team is currently probing the cause of the fire.
