Mets comeback falls short in second straight loss to Reds

The New York Mets (68-80) ninth-inning rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds (78-72) on Saturday night at Citi Field.

With two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Pete Alonso grounded out to third base to end the contest.

Ronny Mauricio plated the first run with an RBI single, and Francisco Alvarez drove in the second run with an RBI double.


Tylor Megill allowed all three runs (two earned) on nine hits over 5.2 innings. Brooks Raley (1.1 IP), Trevor Gott (1.0 IP), and Adam Ottavino (1.0 IP) recorded scoreless appearances.

The Mets will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. with Jose Quintana on the mound.
