As the Auburn Schine Theater approaches its 85th anniversary this week, there’s growing concern about the renovation progress made since its projected reopening date.
The Citizen reports that Bowers Development, who last briefed the Auburn City Council in June 2022, had aimed for a reopening around this significant milestone.
However, officials say they are waiting for another presentation from Bowers.
Last fall, the developer admitted to facing financial constraints due to COVID-19 setbacks.
The Schine Theater renovation, estimated at $6 million, has state funding available, totaling $2.2 million, alongside the $800,000 Community Development Block Grant allocated by the city for hazard clearance.
