The Labor Department reported a modest increase in the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits for the week ending September 9, with applications rising by 3,000 to 220,000.
This uptick follows a previous week that saw the lowest figures in seven months.
However, the more stable four-week average for jobless claims decreased by 5,000, settling at 224,500. As of the week ending September 2, approximately 1.69 million individuals were receiving unemployment benefits, marking an increase of 4,000 from the preceding week
